The Design Mile will be the ultimate resource for consumers to find, compare and purchase the products and services to meet their residential interior and exterior design needs via conveniently located, traditional brick and mortar retail locations. As The Design Mile builds its base of participating retail partners, retail traffic and sales success will prove invaluable to these participants, thus securing the continuation and growth of the venture.

The establishment of a "virtual" design mile will save the retailer up to 25% of their marketing expenditures, as well as increasing their marketing exposure by assisting in the collection of consumer information from other retailers participating in the The Design Mile.

The Design Mile will also save time for consumers up to 50 percent normally spent by physically searching and traveling to and from retailers; allowing them to spend less time window shopping and less traveling between retailers.  In addition, it saves the customer time and entices the retailers to reach purchase-ready buyers.

Mission Statement:

The Design Mile will be the ultimate resource for consumers to find, compare and purchase the products and services to meet their residential interior and exterior design needs via conveniently located, traditional brick and mortar locations.  As The Design Mile builds its base of participating retail partners, retail traffic and sales success will prove invaluable to these participants, thus securing the continuation and growth of the venture.

Company Background

The concept for the business came to The Design Mile’s co-owner, Ed Jacobs, when he was managing a tile flooring company in Weymouth, Mass.  Jacobs realized his customers lacked comprehensive product design knowledge and believed he could implement a business model to fully take advantage of the surrounding retail businesses and their own extensive business lines. As a result of Jacobs’ idea, he contacted Erik Jacobson, who has his own internet design company, to develop the concept. Together Eddie and Erik put together this Business Plan and asked additional business colleagues to contribute to this venture. Together, the founders and their colleagues have many years of experience in the retail, marketing, financial, legal and internet industries.

A successful virtual internet prototype had been made by September 2006. The decision was made to move forward with testing the product and the corporation was formed in Fall 2006. By the beginning of 2007, the virtual mile prototype was ready and arrangements were made to test the business concept at several locations throughout South Shore area.
